What is laser dentistry?

Laser dentistry uses focused light energy to perform precise dental treatments, often without the need for traditional tools. At Explorer Kids Dental, we use the Solea® dental laser to treat cavities and soft tissue with little to no discomfort. Many children love that they can have dental work done quickly and comfortably, without the need for shots.

Exam and diagnosis

We begin with a comprehensive exam to check your child’s teeth and determine if laser treatment is appropriate. Digital X-rays and visual exams help us spot areas of decay or soft tissue concerns.

Laser treatment

If your child needs a filling or other laser procedure, we’ll use the Solea® laser to complete the work comfortably. The laser precisely targets the area without vibration or heat, which makes the experience easier and more relaxing for children.

Aftercare and follow-up

Because the laser causes less irritation than traditional tools, most kids feel great right after treatment. There’s usually no downtime, and we’ll provide simple aftercare instructions if needed. We’ll also let you know if any follow-up is recommended.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, laser dentistry is very safe when used by trained professionals. The Solea® laser has been approved by the FDA and is used in many children's dental offices around the country. At Explorer Kids Dental, we carefully evaluate each patient to make sure laser treatment is the right fit.

In many cases, the Solea® laser allows us to complete treatment without any numbing at all. For more complex procedures or anxious children, we would recommend using nitrous oxide (happy air). We’ll talk you through every option to make sure your child is comfortable.

We primarily use the laser for fillings and minor soft tissue procedures. It’s ideal for treating cavities in a gentle, noninvasive way and is especially helpful for children who are sensitive to traditional tools.
